The centre’s annual Reverse Santa initiative is run in conjunction with the Buxton and District Lions Club. The campaign urges everyone visiting the shopping centre to GIVE a gift to Santa, and hopes that children will visit the grotto on Saturdays to see Santa and receive a small gift.
This year the scheme has proved to be especially successful, and generous shoppers were even leaving presents at the centre before the official launch. On the first day of the campaign a whopping five sacks full of gifts were donated and the Lions raised more than £900 in cash for local charities and good causes.
“The Reverse Santa scheme aims to help local children and their families over the festive season, who otherwise wouldn’t receive a gift at Christmas. Each year it grows in popularity, which is wonderful to see,” said Nick Townsend from the Buxton and District Lions Club.
Diana Golding, Centre Manager at Spring Gardens Shopping Centre said: “This is the third Christmas that we have run the campaign and each year we receive a great response, but this year has been exceptional. Shoppers were enquiring about the scheme and dropping gifts off well before the official launch date! The generosity of our shoppers - especially in the current financial climate - is fantastic.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Buxton and surrounding areas for their tremendous support so far,” she added.
The Buxton and District Lions Club will be visiting the centre every Saturday in the run up to Christmas.
New, unwrapped gifts can be left in the special trolley in Santa’s Corner at the Spring Gardens Shopping Centre, situated near Evans.
